All UNISON members who are LGPS scheme members should of recently received an email from National Centre.  I know we all receive too many communications, and they can be very easy to delete without reading, but this one needs your attention, as it could mean you will receive your full pension entitlement rather than another cut.

Those lucky few who attended this years AGM will no doubt recall the changes and potential danger that was highlighted at that meeting.  The danger centres around our pension savings being able to be used to fund major infrastructure projects, such as the much criticized HS2.  I have pasted the email below, so read more and sign the petition to save your pension.

What’s the problem?

The government has announced plans to force individual Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) funds to invest in UK infrastructure projects. This is instead of direct government funding of important projects – even if it doesn’t give the best return for LGPS members’ pensions.

UNISON is not against LGPS funds investing in infrastructure, but we believe that investment decisions should be made by the fund managers and their members, not government ministers.

Some five million people like you rely on the Local Government Pension Scheme to pay their pension. This is why UNISON has launched the petition calling for a parliamentary debate on the matter and is asking you, as a scheme member, to sign it today.

    Sign the petition

Over 70,000 people like you have already signed and if we get it to 100,000 the issues will be considered for debate in parliament.  Look at the map and see how many members have signed in your constitueny.  You may also want to raise this issue direct with your MP and take this campaign to the next level!

Best wishes
